Robbie Bryant

Robbie is a Senior Associate at Todd Walker and is the firm’s employment relations/workplace law specialist. Robbie works out of the Wānaka and Queenstown offices.

Robbie is skilled in advising clients on a full range of contentious and non-contentious employment matters. He has advised start-up businesses through to some of New Zealand’s leading public and private sector organisations, including not-for-profit organisations. Robbie also advises employees at all levels, including senior managers and executives.

Robbie’s expertise includes navigating the strategic and commercial challenges facing employers. He works alongside businesses to provide practical solutions to employment issues, from complex restructuring and implementing workplace change to day-to-day employment relations management and the processes that come with this.

An experienced litigator, Robbie represents clients in the Employment Relations Authority and Employment Court, and has made appearances in the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court. Robbie is regularly asked to appear for clients in mediations and has also appeared before the ACC Review Authority and Human Rights Commission. Robbie also has experience in conducting external investigations and mediating disputes.

Employment law is incredibly varied. With Robbie’s significant experience in the field, he regularly advises on the full suite of employment matters, including pursuing and defending personal grievance and other claims; enforcement of restraints of trade; workplace change including redundancy and restructuring; internal and external investigations; termination of employment - misconduct, medical incapacity, abandonment of employment; exiting senior staff; labour inspectorate investigations; Holidays Act matters; employment agreements and associated policies.

Robbie enjoys working closely with businesses and is passionate about educating clients by providing advice that will help their business develop.

Before joining Todd Walker, Robbie spent the first 10 years of his career working in Auckland in Chancery Chambers as an employed barrister specialising in employment law. He then worked for a leading boutique employment law firm before making the move to the South Island.

Robbie has and continues to present and chair seminars on many employment relations topics for LegalWise seminars, contributes regular articles to various periodicals, and regularly runs local workshops about topical employment relations issues.
